The Problem
More and more companies use AI systems to evaluate job applications. These systems scan your resume for keywords, analyze your video interview for facial expressions, and give you a score — before a human ever sees you.
How does it work?
- Resume screening: Algorithms search for specific keywords. No match? Automatically rejected.
- Video analysis: Some tools analyze your tone of voice, eye contact, and facial expressions.
- Social media scan: AI searches your online presence for red flags.
What can you do?
- Use the exact words from the job posting in your resume
- Always ask if AI is used in the hiring process
- Know your rights: under the EU AI Act, employers must inform you about AI use
- Object if you think you were unfairly rejected
The EU AI Act
Starting August 2026, the EU AI Act classifies AI systems for recruitment as "high risk." This means mandatory transparency, human oversight, and the right to an explanation upon rejection.
"You have the right to know whether a human or a machine decides your future."
