The European Commission lets AI companies regulate themselves. From an office in Brussels.

The European Commission, through the Digital Omnibus package, has weakened the registration requirement for dangerous AI systems to "voluntary." The AI Office in Brussels, supposed to oversee this, has fewer than 150 staff for all of Europe. The tech companies they're supposed to regulate have more lobbyists in Brussels than the AI Office has employees.
